A4 KATOWICE-KRAKÓW - 2nd STAGE OF MOTORWAY RESURFACING

16 03 2017 #Press information

The division of investments into stages, conducting works on short sections, two traffic lanes in each direction retained – the 2nd stage of the renovation of the A4 motorway concession section shall be, as in the previous year, friendly for drivers. The first works shall start in the evening hours on 19th March on the four-kilometer carriageway section in the direction of Katowice between Rudno junction and Chrzanów junction.

On 19th March in the evening hours preparatory work shall commence within the framework of the second stage of resurfacing the A-4 Katowice-Cracow motorway.  During the first stage in 2016 work was performed on sections of the carriageway of a total length of 24 km. The exchange of the surface on sections of a total length of 36 km is scheduled for execution in 2017.

First, works will be carried out on the carriageway in the direction of Katowice on a four-kilometer section between the Rudno junction and Chrzanów junction (from the 380th kilometer to 376th kilometer).

In view of the planned changes in the traffic organization the road will be narrowed down to one traffic lane on short sections from evening hours on 19th March until morning hours of 22nd March.

By continuing the resurfacing of the A-4 Katowice-Cracow motorway we shall apply a traffic organization which proved to be ideal for the users of the A4 concession section. During the first stage of renovation we carried out works and we shall still carry out works in order to minimize inconvenience and retain two traffic lanes in each direction for the entire duration of the works. Periods during which the assembly or disassembly of steel safety barriers separating the opposing traffic flow proceeds will be an exception to this rule and we shall undertake our best efforts to perform these works in the evening hours and at night when traffic is smaller, says Rafał Czechowski, the press spokesman of Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska.

While on the carriageway in the direction of Katowice one traffic lane is renovated, the other one will be passable. The carriageway to Cracow will consist of two traffic lanes in the direction of Cracow and one traffic lane in the direction of Katowice. A similar traffic organization shall be implemented on other renovated sections of the carriageway. A speed limit up to 80km/h shall apply along the renovated section.

Resurfacing work between Rudno junction and Chrzanów junction will end around 27 April 2017.

In the next stage, resurfacing works shall commence on the section between Rudno junction and Balice junction on the carriageway in the direction of Cracow (from 380th kilometer to 386th kilometer). The concessionaire will successively provide information on the consecutive stages of the renovation via the websites: www.ia4.pl, www.autostrada-a4.pl, through Twitter (@A4KatKra) and on facebook (a-4katowicekrakow).

The resurfacing is scheduled to be completed in November 2017.

About Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.)

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not receive the so-called availability payments from the State. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
