FIRST STAGE OF RESURFACING ON THE A4 KATOWICE-KRAKOW IS TO FINISH. PREPARATIONS FOR OVERHAUL OF THE SECOND SECTION TO LAST ONE DAY
The overhaul of a four kilometre stretch between the Balice Toll Plaza and the Rudno Junction carried out since 4 May on the westbound carriageway is coming to an end. Changed traffic organisation will be introduced in connection with preparatory works for the renovation of the neighbouring eastbound roadway from 8 p.m. on 10 June on the same stretch of the A4 Katowice-Krakow.
The first stage of road surface renovation on the A4 Katowice-Krakow went according to schedule. During works on each subsequent stretch there will be the same traffic organisation and two lanes in each direction will be retained. From 11 June to 22 July the eastbound carriageway will be resurfaced on a 4 km stretch between the Rudno Junction and the Toll Plaza in Balice, (from 386+450 to 390+400 km).
On Friday, 10 June, about 8 p.m. works connected with moving steel safety barriers and markings on new traffic organisation will start. They will last until the evening of 11 June. At this time only one lane will be open on both carriageways of the A4 Katowice-Krakow. A speed limit of 80 km/h will be introduced. Two lanes in each direction are to be opened again from the evening of 11 June.
– Resurfacing works are carried out in such a way as to minimise any problems for drivers. Over the previous month users of our stretch of the A4 could see that the overhauled stretches are quite short and that two lanes are retained in each direction. The only exception are short periods connected with moving the steel safety barriers separating opposing traffic directions – explains Rafał Czechowski, the spokesperson for Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska.
During the overhaul two lanes will be open on the westbound carriageway and one on the eastbound carriageway, where one lane will be closed and the other passable. For technical reasons temporary closing of individual lanes will be required.
Overhaul of this stretch of the A4 Katowice-Krakow will finish on 22 July. Works will be ceased during the World Youth Days. On 2nd August resurfacing will begin on the westbound stretch between Jeleń and Balin Junctions and then around the Brzeczkowice Junction in Myslowice, also on the westbound carriageway (Katowice direction).
Detailed information about times and changes in traffic organisation can be found on the websites: www.autostrada-a4.pl, www.ia4.pl, twitter (@A4KatKra), facebook (a4katowicekrakow) and Road Information Points.
The contractor for the 40.23 million project of resurfacing of 59.85 km out of about 122 km of road surface on both carriageways of the A4 Katowice-Krakow is a consortium of companies from Pavimental Group. All works are to finish in November 2017.

About Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.)
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. It is the first fully functional road of this kind in Poland, built within the framework of public-private partnership as a brownfield investment – modernisation of the road built in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has held the concession for its adaptation to the requirements of a toll motorway and operation since 1997. Meeting the concession obligations has required numerous investments. All investment projects, including current maintenance of the road, are financed from tolls for using the concession stretch and from loans obtained from an international bank consortium. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not receive the so-called availability payments from the State. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
