NEW TOLL RATES ON THE A4 KATOWICE-KRAKOW
From 1 March there will be new toll rates for using the A4 Katowice-Krakow. They have been agreed upon with the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways. After the new rates are introduced, motorcyclists will pay PLN 5 at each toll plaza and category 1 vehicles drivers will have to make the payment of PLN 10. The changed rate for using the motorway for category 2 and 3 vehicles will be PLN 16.50 and category 4 and 5 vehicles PLN 26.50.
Drivers of cars using subscription coupons will still get the discount of 5% when 50 passages are purchased.
The toll rate for cars was last changed 3 years ago (on 1 March 2012), the rate for category 2 and 3 vehicles has not changed since 2011, and for category 4 and 5 vehicles for 10 years.
The new rates for motorcycles and category 2 and 3 vehicles (like cars with trailers and smaller trucks) will entitle motorway users to higher discounts than now.
- With substantial expenditures on operation of the motorway as well as on investments, that also entail works not provided for in the concession agreement (like e.g. extension of toll plazas), the change of rates is justified. It must be remembered that car drivers are able to make up for the rise by buying subscription coupons that improve traffic flow on toll plazas when used by many people – says Rafał Czechowski, the spokesperson for Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A.
Toll rates for using the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway for vehicles of all categories at both toll plazas will amount to:
- 5 PLN – category 1 vehicles: motorbikes,
- 10 PLN – category 1 vehicles: two-axle road vehicles,
- 16.50 PLN - category 2 vehicles: road vehicles with two-axles, of which at least one is equipped with the twin wheel and two-axle road vehicles with trailers,
- 16.50 PLN - category 3 vehicles: three-axle road vehicles and two-axle road vehicles of which at least one is equipped with the twin wheel, with trailers,
- 26.50 PLN - category 4 and 5 vehicles: road vehicles with more than three axles and three-axle road vehicles with trailers, road vehicles with more than three axles, with trailers, as well as oversized vehicles.

About Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.)
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. It is the first fully functional road of this kind in Poland, built within the framework of public-private partnership as a brownfield investment – modernisation of the road built in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has held the concession for its adaptation to the requirements of a toll motorway and operation since 1997. All investment projects, including current maintenance of the road, are financed from tolls for using the concession stretch and from loans obtained from an international bank consortium. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not receive the so-called availability payments from the State. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
