REPLACEMENT OF THE ROAD SURFACE ON THE A4 KATOWICE-KRAKÓW MOTORWAY NEARING COMPLETION
On Thursday, 8 April this year, works will begin on the final stage of replacing the surface of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. The section between Murckowska junction in Katowice and Brzęczkowice junction in Mysłowice will undergo repair works. The accompanying changes in traffic organisation will include, among others, an exit from the motorway to the Mysłowice junction.
The surface will be replaced on the carriageway in the direction of Kraków on the 3.5 km section between the Murckowska and the Brzęczkowice junction, i.e. from 345.0 to 348.5 km. The repair works will be preceded by preparatory works related to the introduction of temporary traffic organisation in this area, carried out during the night hours from 27 March to 8 April. During the changes, only one lane will be open, and a speed limit will be introduced.
According to the new traffic organisation, exit from A4 motorway onto Mysłowice junction (km 346.8) in the case of traffic heading towards Krakow will be possible only from the right lane, which will be located on the carriageway in the direction of Krakow. Motorists who choose the left lane on the opposing carriageway (towards Katowice) will not be able to exit to Mysłowice.
The exit at the Mysłowice junction for motorists heading towards Katowice will be possible, as before, from both lanes.
– From the beginning, we have been carrying out the necessary road surface replacement on our section of the A4 motorway with the assumption to minimise the inconvenience for motorists, carrying out works on short sections and maintaining two traffic lanes in each direction. It will be the same this time, except for the period of preparatory works and changes in traffic organisation – says Rafał Czechowski, spokesman of Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska. – Information on the change of traffic organisation in the Mysłowice junction area will be posted on boards placed before the separation of lanes. We ask motorists to pay particular attention to the new signs – he adds.
The works are scheduled to be completed by mid-May 2021.
Between 2016 and 2018, Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska modernised a total of 76.6 kilometres of the road surface on the managed A4 motorway section. The works were continued in 2019–2020 when another 36.5 kilometres of the road surface were replaced.
Information on the ongoing works will be updated on a regular basis at www.autostrada-a4.pl, on Twitter (@A4KatKra) and Facebook (a4katowicekrakow).

Information about SAM SA
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-km section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. This is the first fully operational road of this type in Poland, built as part of the public-private partnership, as a brownfield project on the basis of the road constructed in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. obtained a license for its adaptation to the requirements of the toll motorway and operation in 1997. It required numerous investments. All investment projects and current maintenance of road lanes are funded from revenues obtained from the collection of tolls for the concession section and loans received from the international banking consortium. Unlike other concessions for the management of toll motorways, the project implemented by Stalexport Autostrada S. A. does not burden the State Treasury with any obligations. Moreover, it has not received any grants or guarantees of the Treasury.
