STALEXPORT AUTOSTRADA MAŁOPOLSKA S.A. INTRODUCES NEW PAYMENT METHODS ON THE A4 KATOWICE-KRAKOW
From 1 February drivers travelling on the A4 Katowice-Krakow and going through the toll plazas in Mysłowice and Balice will be able to pay for using this stretch with fleet and fuel cards. Introducing convenient and cashless payments is the result of the carried out replacement of toll collection devices that is part of a comprehensive programme of increasing the capacity of toll plazas implemented by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.).
On toll collection plazas ORLEN and Routex fleet and fuel cards will be accepted. PKN ORLEN cards: Flota and Open Drive will enable non-cash purchases of fuel and services on ORLEN filling stations (they are located on rest areas along the concession stretch of the A4) and on Bliska filling stations. Routex card entitles users to pay at Aral, BP, Omv, Eni and Statoil filling stations.
It will be possible to pay with fleet and fuel cards in all toll booths in Mysłowice and Balice, except for the especially marked leftmost toll gates. They are currently being prepared for launching the unmanned toll collection system with fleet and fuel cards as well as bank and proximity cards. Despite ongoing preparations these toll gates will still be fully functional and it will be possible to pay in cash or with payment cards there.
- Investments aimed at increasing the capacity of toll plazas are coming to an end. We started from the extension of both toll plazas, adding four additional booths and then we replaced the toll collection devices in them. They are suitable for payments with fleet and fuel cards. This will enable more convenient payments for travellers and it will be easier for owners of companies whose employees travel the concession stretch of the A4 to pay for using the motorway – says Rafał Czechowski, the spokesperson for Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A.
The idea behind the comprehensive programme of increasing the capacity of toll collection plazas on the A4 Katowice-Krakow is quantitative development of toll collection infrastructure and introduction of qualitative changes. First, in 2012, Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. extended the toll plaza in Mysłowice with four additional lanes with service points (two in each direction).
The following year an analogous investment was carried out on the Balice toll plaza. Besides, on both toll plazas, toll collection devices were replaced, which introduced faster and more convenient payment forms, e.g. with fleet and fuel cards.
- In the next quarter we are planning to introduce the fastest possible payment method on the A4 Katowice-Krakow, i.e. KartA4 proximity card. This way of payment will be cashless and available only on the concession stretch of the A4. It will be particularly dedicated to drivers who use this road regularly– adds Rafał Czechowski.
Ultimate configuration of the new toll collection devices will not impact motorway users. Works will be carried out with the retention of full functionality of toll booths.

About SAM S.A.
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. It is the first fully functional road of this kind in Poland, built within the framework of public-private partnership as a brownfield investment – modernisation of the road built in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has held the concession for its adaptation to the requirements of a toll motorway and operation since 1997. This required numerous investments. All investment projects, including current maintenance of the road, are financed from tolls for using the concession stretch and from loans obtained from an international bank consortium. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
