STALEXPORT AUTOSTRADA MAŁOPOLSKA S.A. OPENED SELF-SERVICE GATES ON TOLL PLAZAS IN MYSLOWICE AND BALICE
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.) opened self-service gates on toll plazas in Myslowice and Balice. Drivers can now make quick cashless payments for using the motorway without the help of a cashier. The introduction of automatic lanes is the result of replacement of toll collection devices on the A4 Katowice-Krakow, which is part of a comprehensive programme of increasing the capacity of toll plazas.
Self-service lanes on toll plazas in Myslowice and Balice function in both directions (one in the Katowice direction and one in the Krakow direction). These are the leftmost lanes, closest to the axis of the road.
When we use the self-service lanes we may make the payment only in the electronic form – with the use of a bank card, fuel card, fleet card and in the future also with A4 cards. It is impossible to pay in cash at automatic gates. If we want to make a cashless payment we must stop by the toll machine, read the amount to be paid from a monitor (this amount will correspond to the rate for a given vehicle category which will be automatically recognized by the system), insert card into the reader or hold it near the proximity reader and then enter the PIN code (if necessary) and collect the receipt printed by the machine. The barrier will be raised only after the receipt is collected.
– Self-service gates are designed for drivers who prefer comfortable and quick ways of making cashless payments. From February, when we introduced the possibility to pay for using the concession stretch of the A4 with fleet and fuel cards, this form of payment has been getting more and more popular. We will soon introduce another payment form, which will be the quickest of all forms of payment available so far on the A4 Katowice-Krakow, i.e. a proximity card named KartA4. This card, which is particularly dedicated to drivers regularly travelling on our motorway, will also be used at automatic gates - says Rafał Czechowski, the spokesperson for Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A.
Replacement of toll collection devices is part of a comprehensive programme of increasing the capacity of toll plazas on the A4 Katowice-Krakow. Besides the replacement of the equipment, Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. extended the toll plazas in Mysłowice and Balice with four additional lanes with service points (two in each direction). The cost of replacement of toll collection devices is over PLN 25 million.

About SAM S.A.
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. It is the first fully functional road of this kind in Poland, built within the framework of public-private partnership as a brownfield investment – modernisation of the road built in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has held the concession for its adaptation to the requirements of a toll motorway and operation since 1997. This required numerous investments. All investment projects, including current maintenance of the road, are financed from tolls for using the concession stretch and from loans obtained from an international bank consortium. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
