SUMMER HOLIDAYS WITH TOLL DISCOUNTS ON A4 KATOWICE-KRAKOW

10 06 2020 #Press information

The concessionaire of the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway will keep preferential toll rates until the end of September this year.  Depending on the vehicle category, motorists will still be able to save between 3 and 5 zlotys on each gate via contactless payments. From the beginning of summer holidays, videotolling users will be able to choose between two phone apps: Autopay and SkyCash, while users of the A4Go electronic toll collection systems will be offered two payment options: pre-paid impulses or credit card linked to their on-board unit.

Thanks to the introduction of preferential rates at the beginning of this year, drivers travelling with the Autopay app or the A4Go or Telepass electronic toll collection system save between 15% and 30% on each journey by paying PLN 7 instead of PLN 10 for category 1 vehicles, PLN 17 instead of PLN 20 for category 2 and 3 vehicles, and PLN 30 instead of PLN 35 for category 4 and 5 vehicles. A4Go impulses (top-ups) purchased at a reduced price will remain valid for two years.
The preferential rates for automatic payments will be available until the end of September this year.
As of today, the percentage of transactions involving Autopay and A4Go during peak hours has already reached 36%.

– Thanks to relaxing the restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic and state of epidemic in Poland, traffic on our section of the A4  motorway is constantly increasing. In view of the gradual return to offices and workplaces, and in connection with planning their summer holidays, there are many reasons why contactless toll payment methods are the most advantageous choice for drivers. Discounts are not the only benefit of automatic payments, since they also feature instant transactions without having to stop at dedicated gates, which, thanks to their considerably higher throughput, are virtually free from queues. 'With an app or on-board unit, we travel cheaper, faster, more conveniently and safer for our health,' concludes Rafał Czechowski, spokesperson for SAM SA.

The concessionaire continues to develop automatic payments.  The A4Go electronic toll collection system will be extended with a postpaid formula through which the on-board units can be linked to a bank card. The fee will be charged from the customer's bank account when driving through the gate. This way, drivers will not have to top up their accounts with impulses in advance; however, such an option will remain available to those interested. A new A4Go online service will be launched in late June, enabling comprehensive and convenient control of the user account via the Internet.

Those who prefer videotolling – toll payments based on licence plate detection – will be able to choose between two apps: Sky Cash, in addition to the Autopay app, which has been already been available on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway for a year. Both of them can also be used for payments at A1 motorway gates.

With the aim to improve traffic flow at toll plazas, SAM SA will further expand the plazas in Brzęczkowice and Balice and extend the access lanes to gates dedicated to automatic payments, and in the future, it plans to increase the number of posts for immediate cashless transactions.

Information about SAM SA

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-km section of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway. This is the first fully operational road of this type in Poland, built as part of the public-private partnership, as a brownfield project  on the basis of the road constructed in the 1970s  and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. obtained a license for its adaptation to the requirements of the toll motorway and operation in 1997. It required numerous investments. All investment projects and current maintenance of road lanes are funded from revenues obtained from the collection of tolls for the concession section and loans received from the international banking consortium. Unlike other concessions for the management of toll motorways, the project implemented by Stalexport Autostrada S. A. does not burden the State Treasury with any obligations. Moreover, it has not received any grants or guarantees of the Treasury.
