VIDEOTOLLING NOW ACTIVE ON A4 KATOWICE-KRAKÓW MOTORWAY THANKS TO NEW mPAY APP

17 01 2022 #Press information

Drivers travelling on the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway can now use the mPay app to pay tolls at the toll gates. This is yet another automatic payment solution that brings lower prices, faster transactions at toll plazas, as well as user convenience and safety.

Since its 2019 launch, the concessionaire of the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway has seen a steady increase in transactions using video tolling. Just like the previously available Autopay, SkyCash and IKO apps, mPay provides drivers with tolls cheaper by as much as 25% - PLN 9 instead of PLN 12 at each toll plaza.

The new application is yet another step towards reducing congestion at the toll gates, particularly during periods of increased travel, e.g. winter holidays. The way the toll plazas in Mysłowice and Balice are organised is evolving to cater to the increasing proportion of window-up method users. Since December last year, additional automatic gates have been activated in the vicinity of the orange gates at times of heavy traffic. Users of both mPay and other apps can also pay their tolls at other gates marked with a symbol depicting a black camera on a yellow background.

Video tolling is the most convenient option both during and after the trip. While at the toll gates, the system raises the barrier instantly, without the usual hassle of cash or card payments. This also makes it the safest payment option at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The app allows you to conveniently manage your user account via its interface, as well as to download individual invoices and aggregate end-of-month statements.

"Choosing your motorway toll payment method is very straightforward: if you want to ensure cheaper, faster and more convenient travel, all you have to do is install an app, and there are more and more of these being supported at our section. With 40% of transactions involving automatic methods, i.e. video tolling and A4Go electronic toll collection, it is clear to us that we are moving towards ever greater toll payment automation, and that drivers have noticed genuine benefits of it", said Rafał Czechowski, SAM S.A. Spokesperson.

Automatic motorway toll payments via mPay require in-app activation of the service. However, having a phone with the mPay app is not required when driving on the motorway since the toll payment is made automatically. Cameras placed at the toll gates read the vehicle's licence plate number, the toll system verifies whether the given car has been registered via the app and if so,
 automatically raises the barrier.

To use the video tolling motorway toll service with the mPay application, you must either add your payment card to the app or have funds available on your mRachunek account (the latter option is available to users with verified mPay accounts).

Users of the mPay app can also use toll sections of state motorways at the A4 Sośnica-Wrocław and A2 Konin-Stryków sections that utilise the e-TOLL payment system, without having to buy an electronic motorway ticket at stationary toll houses. The transaction takes place fully via mPay. Moreover, the app allows you to pay parking fees in more than 60 cities across Poland, including Katowice and Kraków, and thanks to mPay's innovative solutions, you always know which parking zone you are in and what kind of fee applies there. Another interesting functionality provided by mPay is a motor insurance comparison engine, as well as the ability to purchase the best insurance offer.

App users will soon be able to use mPay to pay tolls on the A1 motorway as well.
