WITH A4Go WE TURNED JAMS INTO STUDS AND CORK - STALEXPORT AUTOSTRADA MAŁOPOLSKA S.A. SUMS UP THE CAMPAIGN PROMOTING THE ELECTRONIC TOLL COLLECTION SYSTEM ON THE A4 KATOWICE-CRACOW MOTORWAY

14 07 2017 #Press information

"Turning jams into studs and cork"– this is the slogan under which Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has encouraged the drivers of the A4 Katowice-Cracow motorway for the last six months to use the electronic toll collection system. A positive driver response was rewarded with souvenirs prepared for them from….cork.

One złoty from each A4Go onboard device purchased at that time was assigned to a fund donated by the concessionaire for the purchase of balls and sports shoes for children from the House of the Guardian Angels from Katowice and the Siemacha Association from Cracow. The campaign ended with a football match played by the charges of both organisations.

Under the campaign promoting the electronic toll collection system on the A-4 Katowice-Cracow motorway, the drivers by purchasing the A4Go onboard units helped provide shoes and footballs for the wards of the House of the Guardian Angels of the Children and Youth Aid Association in Katowice and the Progress Sports Academy in Małopolska operating within the Siemacha Association. The purchases of new A4Go devices for category 1 vehicles were additionally rewarded with handy gifts made of cork, such as travel tags, spectacle cases, wallets for cards.

One year after introducing A4Go on the A-4 Katowice-Cracow motorway it is clearly visible that the electronic toll collection system improved the flow of traffic through the toll plazas.  The traffic flow also improved thanks to gates which were adapted to such a payment system. “During the campaign we sold nearly 5000 onboard devices, handing out a few hundred gifts made of natural cork to the drivers.” Rafał Czechowski, the spokesman of SAM S.A. sums up that thanks to the new A4Go users, the small football players playing matches in new shoes, colloquially known as “studs” scored goals frequently and precisely.

A4Go is the most modern and the simplest payment system on the A4 Katowice-Cracow motorway. It is also the most cost-effective option for drivers of passenger cars – if they choose the option to use the electronic toll collection system, they get a 10% discount for driving along the motorway. Since December last year  they can use the leftmost lanes adapted for this payment mode only. The separate A4Go traffic lanes are marked with orange arrows on the carriageways. Information about them is displayed both on boards installed on gantries placed in front of the toll plaza entrances, as well as, on toll plaza roofs.

13 000 onboard units are used one year after introducing A4Go.

The main hero of the campaign carried out by Stalexport – the House of the Guardian Angels in Katowice – helps the youth and children from difficult backgrounds and socially unadapted persons and their families, too. One of the forms of upbringing children and the youth applied by the “Angels” is sport, ie. football. The House of the Guardian Angels has a boys’ football team aged 7 to 12. Children improve their football skills under the watchful eye of the coaches. The final match within the “A4Go campaign – Turning jams into studs and cork” was played against peers from the Progress Sports Academy controlled by Siemacha Association from Cracow, which for years has been teaching young people through sports.

The report from the match is available on the concessionaire’s youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkjE4X7zov0

Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not receive the so-called availability payments from the State. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
