WORLD YOUTH DAYS: STALEXPORT AUTOSTRADA MAŁOPOLSKA S.A. HAS SIGNED AN AGREEMENT WITH THE MINISTRY OF INFRASTRUCTURE AND CONSTRUCTION. DURING HIGH TRAFFIC THE CONCESSIONAIRE WILL BE ABLE TO DECIDE TO CEASE TOLL COLLECTION FOR USING THE A4 KATOWICE-KRAKOW
The Ministry of Infractructure and Construction and Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. have signed an agreement enabling the concessionaire of the A4 Katowice-Krakow to cease toll collection for using the motorway during the World Youth Days.
Based on the agreement the public party and the concession company Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. are going to exchange information about traffic situation on the motorway and other access roads to Krakow. In the case of particularly high traffic and depending on the situation on other roads, the concessionaire will have the possibility to suspend toll collection for using the motorway in a chosen direction on one or two toll plazas, i.e. in Mysłowice or in Balice.
– The A4 motorway is the main route connecting Krakow with the west. The signed agreement creates conditions for flexible adjustment of the functioning of toll plazas to the situation on the A4 Katowice-Krakow and on other routes during the World Youth Days. Our priority is the safety of travellers and optimal flow of traffic. In case of a particularly high traffic volume we have the possibility to cease toll collection for using the motorway. However, this does not mean that the barriers will be open throughout the World Youth Days – explains Rafał Czechowski, the spokesperson for Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska SA.
The concessionaire will not be reimbursed for uncollected tolls and the Ministry will not claim compensations in connection with the loss of revenue to the state budget.
Throughout the World Youth Days, in connection with the suspended resurfacing of the A4 motorway, normal traffic organisation will be reintroduced.

About Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. (SAM S.A.)
Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. manages the 60-kilometre long stretch of the A4 motorway between Katowice and Krakow. It is the first fully functional road of this kind in Poland, built within the framework of public-private partnership as a brownfield investment – modernisation of the road built in the 1970s and 1980s. Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. has held the concession for its adaptation to the requirements of a toll motorway and operation since 1997. Meeting the concession obligations has required numerous investments. All investment projects, including current maintenance of the road, are financed from tolls for using the concession stretch and from loans obtained from an international bank consortium. Unlike other concessions for managing toll motorways, the project run by Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska S.A. does not burden the state budget in any way. The company does not receive the so-called availability payments from the State. The company does not benefit from any State Treasury subsidies or guarantees.
