Modernisation of the A4 motorway, section Katowice-Krakow

With the safety of users of the A4 Katowice-Krakow in mind, modernisation works started at the beginning of March. The company intends to carry out the work without any major impact on the capacity of the route, maintaining two lanes in each direction.

REPLACEMENT OF CARRIAGEWAY SURFACE

a) the carriageway towards Katowice between the Rudno junction and the Balice Toll Plaza (from km 384 to km 388)

• one lane available on the carriageway towards Katowice,
• on the carriageway towards Krakow there are two lanes available for travellers in the direction of Krakow and one lane available for travellers in the direction of Katowice (both directions are separated by a special barrier).

b) the Kraków-bound carriageway between the Mysłowice junction and the Mysłowice toll plaza (from km 348 to km 351).

• on the carriageway towards Krakow, one lane is open,
• on the carriageway towards Katowice two lanes are available for travellers in the direction of Katowice and one lane for travellers in the direction of Kraków (both directions are separated by a special barrier).

BRIDGE RENOVATION IN CHRZANOW

Closure of the bridge in Chrzanow between the Balin junction and the Chrzanow junction (km 370);

• the carriageway to Katowice is closed on a section of approx. 400 m,
• on the carriageway to Krakow, on a section of approx. 400 m, there are 2 narrowed traffic lanes towards Katowice and 2 narrowed traffic lanes towards Krakow.

End of the above-mentioned renovation is scheduled for December 2025.

The proper maintenance of the infrastructure of the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway, including the road surface and engineering structures (including bridges and viaducts), results not only from the regulations in force, but also from the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which imposes on the concessionaire the obligation to hand over the motorway to the public in 2027 in perfect technical condition, i.e. in such a condition that it will not require repairs and upgrades in the following years.
