Modernisation works on the A4 motorway, section Katowice-Krakow - update
With the safety of users of the A4 Katowice-Krakow in mind, modernisation works began at the beginning of March. The company intends to carry out the work without any major impact on the capacity of the route, maintaining two lanes in each direction.
REPLACEMENT OF ROAD SURFACE
1) on the carriageway towards Krakow between the Myslowice junction and the toll plaza in Myslowice, i.e. from km 348 to km 351.
- on the carriageway towards Krakow one lane is available,
- on the carriageway towards Katowice two lanes are available for travellers in the direction of Katowice and one lane for travellers in the direction of Kraków (both directions will be separated with a special barrier).
2) on the carriageway towards Katowice between the Rudno junction and the Balice toll plaza (from km 384 to km 388)
- on the carriageway towards Katowice one lane is available,
- on the carriageway towards Krakow two lanes are available for travellers in the direction of Krakow and one lane for travellers in the direction of Katowice (both directions will be separated by a special barrier).
On 14 April, pavement replacement will begin on the carriageway towards Krakow.
- on the carriageway towards Kraków one lane will be open,
- on the carriageway towards Katowice two lanes will be available for those travelling towards Katowice and one lane for those travelling towards Kraków. (both directions will be separated by a special barrier).
Completion of the works on the above motorway section is scheduled for the end of July this year.
3) on the carriageway towards Krakow behind the toll gates at the Balice toll plaza, i.e. from km 400+600 to km 401+100
- on the carriageway towards Krakow one lane is available,
- on the carriageway towards Katowice two lanes are available for travellers in the direction of Katowice and one lane for travellers in the direction of Kraków (both directions will be separated with a special barrier).
ATTENTION. Car park behind the gates of the Balice toll plaza is not available to travellers during the section's renovation. Please use the Service Area located 2 km closer.
BRIDGES RENOVATION
1) the bridge in Imielin between the Mysłowice toll plaza and the Jeleń junction (km 357) has been closed:
- the carriageway to Kraków is closed for approx. 400 m,
- on the carriageway to Katowice, in a section of approx. 400 m, there are 2 narrowed lanes in the direction of Katowice and 2 narrowed lanes in the direction of Kraków (both directions are separated by a special barrier).
Completion of the aforementioned renovation is scheduled for July 2025.
2) the bridge in Chrzanów between the Balin junction and the Chrzanów junction (km 370) has been closed:
- on the carriageway to Katowice, a section of approx. 400 m is closed,
- on the carriageway to Kraków, in a section of approx. 400 m, there are 2 narrowed lanes in the direction of Katowice and 2 narrowed lanes in the direction of Kraków (both directions are separated with a special barrier).
The completion of the above-mentioned renovation is scheduled for December 2025.
The proper maintenance of the infrastructure of the A4 Katowice-Krakow motorway, including the road surface and engineering structures (including bridges and viaducts), results not only from the regulations in force, but also from the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which impose on the concessionaire the obligation to hand over the motorway to the public in 2027 in perfect technical condition, i.e. in such a condition that it will not require repairs and upgrades in the following years.
