Works on the A4 motorwy, section Katowice-Kraków - update

We kindly inform you about the current traffic difficulties on the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway, caused by modernization and repair works of the motorway infrastructure. The main objective of these works is to ensure an appropriate level of safety for drivers using the motorway.

Proper maintenance of the infrastructure of the A4 Katowice-Kraków motorway, e.g. carriageways and engineering structures (including bridges) results not only from the applicable regulations, but also from the provisions of the Concession Agreement, which obliges the concessionaire to hand over the motorway to the public party in 2027 in perfect technical condition, i.e. one that will not it required renovation and modernization over the following years.

BRIDGE RENOVATION IN KATOWICE (km 342)

• traffic to Katowice on a section of approx. 800 m is carried out on two narrowed lanes,
• traffic to Kraków on a section of approx. 800 m is carried out on two narrowed lanes.

Completion of these works is scheduled for June 2023.

As a result of the works carried out, the usability properties of the bridge will be improved, its service life will be extended and its aesthetics will be improved.

BRIDGE RENOVATION IN MYSŁOWICE

On a section of approx. 1 km (from km 348 to km 349):

• the carriageway towards Katowice is closed,
• on the carriageway towards Kraków, 2 narrowed lanes are intended for traffic in the direction of Katowice and 2 narrowed lanes for traffic in the direction of Kraków.

Completion of works is scheduled for November 2023.

As a result of the works carried out, the usability properties of the bridge will be improved, its service life will be extended and its aesthetics will be improved.

WORKS ON MOTORWAY JUNCTIONS

Mysłowice junction (km 346) - replacement of the road surface

• narrowings of Obrzeżna Zachodnia street in Myslowice,
• closure of the Katowice-Mysłowice slip road. The detour is carried out along the motorway to the Brzęczkowice junction, then using the internal slip roads of this junction, return to the A4 in the direction of Katowice and the Kraków-Mysłowice exit slip road of the Mysłowice junction. Opening planned for second half of June 2023,
• in the second half of June, the closure of the Kraków-Mysłowice slip road, i.e. the exit from the A4 from Kraków to Mysłowice, is planned. The detour will run through the Murckowska junction in Katowice. 

Planned completion of all works at the junction: mid-August 2023. 

As a result of the works, the evenness of the surface, load-bearing capacity and its functional properties will be improved, the road body will be properly drained and, above all, the safety of the junction users will increase.

Brzęczkowice junction in Mysłowice (km 349) - crossroads of A4 motorway and S1 expressway - bridge renovation and replacement of the road surface

• 7 June opening the exit from the A4 motorway to the S1 road for drivers going from Katowice towards Tychy, Bielsko-Biala, Cieszyn,
• on June 13, the exit from the S1 road to the A4 motorway will be closed for drivers going from Tychy, Bielsko-Biała and Cieszyn towards Krakow. The detour will run through the Sosnowiec Jęzor junction, and then back to the S1 towards Cieszyn and along the Łódź-Kraków slip road of the Brzęczkowice junction. The exit from S1 to the A4 motorway will be opened on July 31, 2023
• narrowing on the carriageway towards Kraków under the bridge, while maintaining traffic with two narrowed lanes and speed limit to 60 km/h. A "STOP" sign is placed on the slip road direction Łódź-Kraków (traffic from the S1 road to the A4 rmotorway),
• narrowing on the carriageway towards Katowice under the bridge, while maintaining traffic with two narrowed lanes and speed limit to 60 km/h. A "STOP" is placed on the slip road direction Cieszyn-Katowice (traffic from the S1 road to A4).
• on the S1 road, on both roadways (in the direction of Łódź and Cieszyn) in the area of ​​the bridge over the A4 - 2 narrowed traffic lanes with a speed limit of 60 km/h.

ATTENTION! Drivers taking the S1 expressway from Cieszyn or from Łódź towards Katowice are recommended to use the national road No. 86. Also, drivers driving the A4 motorway from Wrocław towards Łódź or Cieszyn are recommended to use the national road No. 86.

Completion of all works is scheduled for November 2023.

As a result of the works carried out, the following will occur: improvement of the functional properties and extension of the useful life of the bridge, improvement of surface evenness, load-bearing capacity and its functional properties, proper drainage of the road body and anti-corrosion protection, increased safety of users of the junction, and improvement of the aesthetics of the bridge.

Chrzanow junction (km 371) - resurfacing

• closed slip road between Chrzanów and Kraków (entrance to A4). The detour is conducted along the remaining slip roads of the junction. Planned opening date of the above-mentioned slip-road: July 1, 2023, 
• narrowing of the national road No. 79 carriageway (Chrzanów-Trzebinia) at the entrance of the currently closed access slip road to the A4 Chrzanów - Kraków and introduction of alternating traffic with the use of traffic lights. Traffic takes place in the opposite lane for approx. 200 m. Planned date of removal of the traffic difficulties: July 1, 2023.   
• from the side of Trzebinia, the exit from the roundabout in ul. European. Planned date of removal of the traffic difficulties: July 1, 2023.   

Planned completion of all works on the above-mentioned junction: October 2023 

Results of the above works: improving the evenness of the surface, load-bearing capacity and its functional properties, proper drainage of the road body and increasing the safety of users of the junction.
